Crow Talks Future of Foreign Policy with Young Leaders at University of Chicago

October 22, 2026

CHICAGO — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO), a former paratrooper and Army Ranger who serves on the House Armed Services Committee and House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, visited the University of Chicago Institute of Politics to outline his vision for a foreign policy that is rooted in working class values and representative of all Americans.

In his remarks, Crow called trust in the country’s foreign policy infrastructure “deeply broken,” having left working class communities behind. He discussed the importance of recruiting a new generation of leaders from different backgrounds and highlighted his work towards building a foreign policy that reflects the needs of working class Americans.

“Trust is deeply broken between Americans and our national security and foreign policy infrastructure,” Crow said. “People don’t believe it serves them, and they’re not wrong… The first step is to make it really clear that the point of our national security and foreign policy is pretty simple: it’s to protect Americans and to make people’s lives better—to reduce costs and support the middle class. That is the point.”

“There are 200 million Americans that live in so-called fly-over country. They can’t access that system. They can’t break into the pipeline of our elite institutions. And our institutions don’t reflect them, are out of touch with them, and don’t really understand where America is at. We’ve got to break that system and tap into the full talent and experience of the American people,” Crow concluded.

Facilitating the discussion was Rear Admiral John Kirby, the former spokesperson for the Department of Defense.

Congressman Crow continues to lay out his affirmative vision for Colorado and the country, including with speeches on the Future of American Foreign Policy at the Center for American Progress, the Munich Security Conference, and Foreign Policy for America’s Leadership Summit. He’s also fighting to build a future that brings Americans together, protects our democracy, and ensures leaders are accountable to working class Americans, outlining his vision for a New American Patriotism at Harvard University’s JFK Jr. Forum in conversation with Heather Cox Richardson and the McCain Institute's Sedona Forum.
