Congressman Crow Delivers Over $11.6 Million in CO-6 Community Project Funding

March 21, 2023

AURORA  — Today, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) delivered over $11.6 million in community project funding that he helped secure through the Fiscal Year 2023 government appropriations process to directly benefit residents of Colorado’s 6th Congressional District.

The funding Crow secured includes:

  • $2.5 million to the City of Aurora to renovate and make improvements to the Martin Luther King Jr. Library;

  • $2.8 million for the Aurora Water Replacement Program;

  • $4 million to Project Worthmore’s “The Roots” – a community hub for newcomers in Colorado;

  • $340,000 to support services at Second Chance Center’s Providence at the Heights (PATH) permanent supportive housing community; and

  • $2 million to Aurora Mental Health & Recovery for their Safety Net and Acute Care Center.

This funding supports Colorado’s families, vulnerable communities, and new residents,” said Congressman Crow. “Together, we’re improving our library, delivering safe and accessible drinking water, uplifting our vulnerable and unhoused neighbors, and prioritizing our communities’ mental health.”

“The safe delivery of water and the access to knowledge afforded by our libraries are among the most important services we provide to the public. On behalf of the city of Aurora and its residents, I want to thank Congressman Crow for his continued support. Without it, we would be challenged to complete these critical community projects,” said Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman.

“On behalf of all of us at Project Worthmore (PWM), we would like to thank Congressman Jason Crow for supporting our project 'The Roots'. With this funding, The Roots, the home of Project Worthmore, will now be able to undergo a much-needed renovation to become a dignified hub for newcomers. We will be able to not only expand our current programs, but it will allow us to add a medical/behavioral health, and a legal clinic. With this funding The Roots building will become a beacon of light along the East Colfax corridor for all newcomers as they begin their new life in our city,” said Project Worthmore leadership.

"We dispel lies, the lies we tell ourselves; the lies people have said over the years that still resonate in our heads. One lie we dispel is that people don’t care…You make a lie out of that every day with the way you represent brother,” said Hassan Latif, Founder of the Second Chance Center. "The answer to homelessness is not just a roof over people’s heads, it's the arms wrapped around them."

"It’s one thing to build a building to get people off the street, it’s another thing to provide the services to help people find their way through the struggles they have,” said Khalil Halim, Executive Director of the Second Chance Center

"It’s not enough just to have shelter over them, but find out what they need, what they truly need. This funding allows us to not just give them their basic needs but to see how they want to live," said Wanda Harrison, Director of PATH-The Second Chance Center's Housing Facility.

"We are so grateful to Congressman Crow for prioritizing the importance of access to behavioral health services and acute care in Aurora through the Congressionally Directed Spending process. This $2 million puts us one step closer to full funding for our new Crisis and Acute Care Center, allowing us to better provide critical emergency services for so many in need at one location, with no wrong door,” said Kelly Phillips-Henry, CEO of Aurora Mental Health & Recovery.
