Statement by Congressman Crow on Introduction of the Equality Act

March 13, 2019

Today, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) released the following statement on the introduction of the Equality Act which extends anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ Americans with regard to employment, education, access to credit, jury service, federal funding, housing, and public accommodations.

"Equality for all people, regardless of their identity, is a founding principal of our country. It is a principle I fought for in the Army and one which I will fight for in Congress. We must ensure that all Americans, no matter how they identify or whom they love, are protected against discrimination. The Equality Act is an important step forward as we strive towards a more perfect union and I'm proud to support this historic - and long overdue - legislation."

Despite significant legal advances over the past several years – including marriage equality, fifty percent of the national LGBTQ community live in states where, though they have the right to marry, they have no explicit non-discrimination protections in other areas of daily life.
