Rep. Jason Crow Statement on Transgender Military Ban
Below please find a statement from Representative Jason Crow following the Supreme Court’s 5-4 order allowing President Trump’s transgender military ban to proceed:
“The military is the standard bearer of American values. The Court’s decision makes our country less safe, undermines the sacrifice of thousands of transgender service members, and fails to uphold our country’s basic civil rights.
“As an Army Ranger, I fought alongside soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan who came from every background and corner of the country, but we swore a common oath to stand shoulder-to-shoulder and serve our country. In discriminating against our transgender service members, we undermine the ability of our country to defend itself and damage our moral credibility as a nation. I won’t stand idle and let that happen. We need to overturn these misguided, harmful policies and pass legislation that protects and defends our service members’ right to serve openly.”
A member of the House Armed Services Committee, Jason Crow served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan with both conventional and special operations units, receiving a Bronze Star for his actions in battle. In 2012, Jason spoke at the Democratic National Convention in support of President Obama’s repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
