Rep. Crow Named Chair of Small Business Subcommittee
In a rare move for a freshman member, Crow will serve as Chair of the Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee
Yesterday, the House Small Business Committee held its first meeting of the 116th Congress. In a rare move for a freshman, Rep. Jason Crow will be serving as Chair on a subcommittee. In his new role, Crow will be overseeing the Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee.
"I look forward to leading the Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee and helping small businesses and start-ups reach their full potential. Small businesses aren't just a boon to our economy, they are the backbone of our communities," said Crow. "We need to make sure our small businesses have access to the latest technology, the resources to hire and retain talented employees, and the support they need to address their unique challenges."
As Chair of the Innovation and Workforce Development Subcommittee, Crow will focus on how innovation promotes economic growth and job creation by small businesses. In addition, the subcommittee will examine small business job growth through the creation and adoption of advanced technologies as well as review the broad scope of workforce issues that impact the ability of small businesses to obtain and maintain qualified employees. Examples of workforce issues include health care, retirement, adoption of clean energy technologies, and labor challenges.
In Colorado, small businesses employ 1.1 million people or one-half of the private sector workforce. The state is home to over 610,000 small businesses of which 15% are minority-owned.
