Rep. Crow Announces More than $4.7 Million in COVID Recovery Grants for Counties, Municipalities in CO-06 and $327 million in Transit Funding for Colorado
Representative Jason Crow (CO-06) announced today that counties and municipalities in the 6th Congressional District will receive more than $4.7 million in COVID-19 Recovery Grants as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Arapahoe and Adams Counties will receive a combined $1.7 million dollars in COVID Recovery Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and Aurora and Thornton will receive over $3 million in funding from the CDBG Program and Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG). The state of Colorado will also receive $327 million in transit funding.
These U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grants were funded through the CARES Act, the third piece of coronavirus response legislation, which Crow helped pass last week. The CDBG and ESG grants will help states and municipalities build capacity to address the COVID-19 crisis, spur economic development, address homelessness and support transitional housing, and secure housing assistance for low-income individuals.
The transit funding will help local and regional transit agencies maintain service in light of decreased ridership. Specifically, the funding can be used for operating and capital expenditures incurred after January 20 of this year.
"The need for immediate and rapid support is constantly reiterated in my conversations with municipal and county officials," said Crow. "The CARES Act is the first step to getting our communities the relief they need and ensuring that our local governments have the resources and money to respond to the coronavirus and its impact. I will continue working with state and local officials to make sure we are reflecting their needs in the federal response."
