Ranking Member Crow and Chairman Kelly Request Documents from Federal Agencies on July 13 Security Failures
Crow and Kelly send two investigation letters requesting documents and information related to the assassination attempt of former president Trump
WASHINGTON – Today, Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump Ranking Member Jason Crow (D-CO) and Chairman Mike Kelly (R-PA) sent two investigation letters requesting documents and information related to the assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024. The Task Force is the official 13-member bipartisan House entity charged with investigating the shooting by a resolution unanimously agreed to by the House of Representatives.
The first letter is addressed to U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and U.S. Secret Service Acting Director Ronald Rowe. The second is addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Both letters request “all documents and information that have been produced to date, to any committee of the House or Senate related to the attempted assassination of former President Donald J. Trump” as well as a briefing no later than August 16, 2024.

Background on the Task Force:
The Task Force is empowered with all investigative authority of the House of Representatives, including subpoena, and assumes control and jurisdiction over all pending House committee investigations regarding the Trump assassination attempt.
The goal of the Task Force is threefold:
To understand what went wrong on the day of the attempted assassination
To ensure accountability
To prevent such an agency failure from ever happening again
The Task Force will make recommendations for reform to the relevant government agencies and recommend any necessary legislation to implement the reforms.
