With Mumps Confirmed at Aurora ICE Detention Center, Rep. Crow Renews Call for Accountability

February 22, 2019

WASHINGTON- Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO) issued the below statement following the confirmation of mumps at the Aurora ICE Detention Center run by GEO Group. ICE confirmed mumps to the public following Rep. Crow's unannounced visit and questions regarding mumps and other diseases at the facility on Feb 20. Yesterday, ICE reported 261 detainees in quarantine.

"It shouldn't take congressional pressure for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to disclose public health issues, yet that's exactly what we saw. Over the last few weeks, my office has received disturbing reports about the detention center. Whether it is the conditions of the facility, the size of the detainee population, or the health of immigrants in their care, we have been left in the dark and without answers.

"I will continue to ask questions and hold ICE accountable for what is happening in the facility. I look forward to hearing from the Department of Homeland Security soon regarding my letter and any further delay only rings more alarm bells."
