Crow Statement on Republican’s Fake Stock Trading Ban
WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO), Co-Chair of the End Corruption Caucus, released the following statement after voting no on Republican’s so-called “Stop Insider Trading Act”:
“Members of Congress should be banned from trading stocks. Full stop.
“This Republican bill doesn’t prevent insider trading or ban stock trading. Instead, it creates loopholes that allow Members of Congress and the President to keep enriching themselves while in office. I voted no because the American people deserve real reforms to take on corruption in Washington, not political stunts.
“Republicans should immediately bring up my bill, the TRUST in Congress Act, to truly ban Members of Congress and their families from owning or trading stocks. I don’t own or trade stocks, I ban my office from betting on prediction markets, and I refuse money from corporate special interests because we have to begin restoring trust in our government.”
Crow is an original cosponsor of the TRUST in Congress Act to ban members of Congress and their families from owning or trading stocks. Crow has stood up to special interests and has not taken a dime of corporate PAC money. He has also led outreach to House leadership urging them to ban members and their staff from using prediction markets. He is leading the fight to root out corruption in our elections, including through his End Dark Money Act to crack down on dark money’s influence on U.S. elections and his bipartisan Shell Company Abuse Act to limit foreign interference in U.S. elections.
