Crow Responds to President Trump’s Attacks on U.S. Postal Service

August 14, 2020

U.S. Rep. Jason Crow released the following statement today in support of the United States Postal Service (USPS). Yesterday, President Trump continued to disparage the Postal Service and mail-in voting, and reports have emerged in the last day that mail-sorting machines are being removed from some postal facilities.

"I have known soldiers who lost their lives to protect our country. These are the soldiers who, in the wake of 9/11, signed up to serve our country so they could protect our freedoms, including the right to vote.

"While I was stationed in the mountains of Afghanistan, it never occurred to me that one day a U.S. President would be the one who would seek to threaten our right to the vote. But make no mistake: by refusing to fund the Postal Service, President Trump is actively working to interfere in our elections by forcing Americans to choose between their health and their right to vote. We have seen him withhold U.S. military aid to interfere in our election and today we are seeing him play politics with an independent agency to once again serve his own political agenda.

"This is a threat to democracy and the safety and well-being of millions of Americans who depend on the USPS for life saving medications and benefits. In all of this, President Trump is enabled by a Senate led by Mitch McConnell who would rather protect his majority than our democracy."
