Crow Celebrates Opening of Project Worthmore’s Roots Community Hub
Center made possible thanks to federal funding secured by Crow
AURORA — Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO) and leaders from Project Worthmore opened the new Roots Community Hub in Aurora, a center that provides resources to new immigrant and refugee families. Congressman Crow secured $4 million in federal Community Project Funds that helped ensure necessary renovations to the building and allowed Project Worthmore to expand the programs and resources they offer.
Project Worthmore has been serving Coloradans since 2011. They offer services to help immigrant families find jobs, healthcare, and education; navigate public benefits; learn English; and access food, legal counsel, and medical care.
“We are a community of immigrants and refugees,” Congressman Crow said at the ribbon-cutting. “About 20 percent of the people that I represent were born outside of the United States. We have over 130 languages spoken in this community. It makes us one of the most diverse communities in the nation, and it makes us stronger. It makes us more vibrant, it makes us more prosperous, and it makes us the wonderful, beautiful place that we call home and that we are so proud of. I will never back down from telling the story to this country and to the world about what the community of Aurora, Colorado, really is and really looks like, and who we are.”
“Part of that is a recognition of the very difficult time that we are in and we will continue to be in for the foreseeable future,” Crow continued. “People will come at our community. They will attack us. They will try to tear us apart. They will target the immigrant and refugee community. And my message to those folks is that we will not let them do that. We protect our own in this community, and if you're going to come at our families, you're going to have to come through all of us to do that. I will fight like hell to protect this community, and to protect the folks who are here today, and to protect the folks who aren't here today. We will not let them get at our community.”
Congressman Crow has led efforts to support and protect the immigrant community in Aurora and across Colorado. That includes fighting back against mass deportation campaigns for immigrants and suing the Trump Administration when they tried to block his oversight of federal immigration detention centers. He previously introduced bipartisan legislation guaranteeing Members of Congress the right to conduct unannounced, in-person oversight visits of ICE detention facilities. He has also led the charge calling for the end to private for profit immigration detention facilities. Since 2019, Crow and his staff have visited the GEO facility in Aurora more than 100 times to conduct oversight. Public reports of such visits, along with conditions at the facility, are published on Crow’s website.
