Congressman Jason Crow Helps Pass Transformative Legislation for America’s Working Families
Crow: For American Businesses, Families to Succeed, We Have to Invest in American People
WASHINGTON -- Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) today voted to pass the Build Back Better Act (HR 5376), a transformative package for America's working families that will cut taxes for the middle class, create better lives for American children, expand affordable health care, combat the climate crisis, and fund those priorities by ensuring corporations pay their fair share in taxes.
"Hardworking people are the backbone of our economy; for American businesses and families to succeed, we have to invest in the American people. I'm proud to have voted for this once-in-a-generation package that will provide universal pre-k, increase access to child care, and decrease the cost of prescription drugs," said Congressman Jason Crow. "This package will not only give a boost to our economy and working families, it pays for these benefits by closing loopholes and making sure big corporations pay their fair share in taxes."
Some provisions of the Build Back Better Act will:
Reduce Expenses for Families by
- Cutting taxes, including for more than 293,000 low-wage workers in Colorado by extending the American Rescue Plan's Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) expansion;
- Extending the Child Tax Credit that Democrats passed in the American Rescue Plan Act, which is helping lift Colorado children out of poverty;
- Lowering drug costs by stopping Big Pharma's outrageous price hikes that outpace inflation.
Lower Child Care & Education Costs by
- Expanding access to free, high-quality preschool to more than 86,000 additional 3- and 4-year-olds every year in Colorado and increases the quality of preschool for children who are already enrolled; and
- Providing access to affordable childcare that will benefit about 330,000 young children every year in Colorado. This plan will cover the families of 9 in 10 young children in the state.
Combat the Climate Crisis by
- Cutting pollutionacross buildings, transportation, industry, electricity, agriculture, and climate-smart practices across lands and waters to ensure we achieve our climate goals by 2030;
- Ensuring healthy forests and combating wildfires, by providing nearly $27 billion for forest resilience on private and public lands across the country;
- Helping families shift to clean energy by delivering substantial consumer rebates and savings for the middle class as they transition; and
- Ensuring clean energy technology will be built in the United States with American-made steel and other materials, creating hundreds of thousands of good jobs here at home.
The Build Back Better Act lowers costs and fights inflation because it is paid for by making big corporations pay their fair share. No one making under $400,000 will pay a penny more in taxes.
