Congressman Crow Statement on President Biden’s Decision to Keep US Space Command in Colorado

July 31, 2023

Crow: “Politics should never get in the way of national security.”

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow, Army veteran and Representative of Colorado’s Sixth Congressional District, home to Buckley Space Force Base, released this statement following President Biden’s decision to keep US Space Command (USSPACECOM) at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, reaffirming Colorado’s position as the premier home for US national security space operations.

This decision follows Congressman Crow’s continued efforts to keep US Space Command in Colorado, including sending a letter this year to President Biden alongside Colorado leaders urging US Space Command be kept in Colorado. Additionally, Crow urged the Biden Administration in June 2021 to review the previous administration’s decision to move US Space Command out of Colorado and pressed Secretary Austin in an April 2022 hearing to restart a comprehensive basing review process.

In a statement, Congressman Crow said:

“Politics should never get in the way of national security. The move to keep US Space Command in Colorado is strategic and in the best interest of military readiness and a strong national defense.

“Colorado is home to over a third of all space-related National Guardsmen and their families. Our highly skilled workforce, battle-tested operations, and secure infrastructure is the ideal home for US Space Command and space-related operations.

“Thank you President Biden for being laser focused on what's best for our country and servicemembers.”
