Congressman Crow Signs Amicus Brief in Response to Texas Court’s Dangerous Decision to Suspend FDA Approval of Mifepristone

April 12, 2023

Crow: “I stand with the White House and Justice Department in rejecting this ruling and will continue fighting to protect a woman’s fundamental right to make decisions about her own body.”

WASHINGTON — Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), member of the Pro-Choice Caucus, joined 240 Members of Congress in sending an amicus brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to overturn the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas’s misguided ruling in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The ruling would suspend the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of Mifepristone, a drug used for over two decades by individuals accessing safe abortions. The judge placed a 7-day stay on the order making the drug still currently legal and accessible.

“The Texas judge’s misguided ruling jeopardizes women’s access to medication abortion and undermines the FDA’s authority to approve safe and effective medication that everyday Coloradans rely on,” said Congressman Crow. “I stand with the White House and Justice Department in rejecting this ruling and will continue fighting to protect a woman’s fundamental right to make decisions about her own body.”

Congressman Crow has been a champion for women’s right to an abortion, including joining House Democrats to introduce the Women’s Health Protection Act to pass into law the right to an abortion nationwide and introducing the Access to Reproductive Care for Servicemembers Actwhich ensures servicemembers, regardless of where they’re stationed, have access to abortion care. He has also called to eliminate the Senate filibuster in order to protect women’s access to abortion and fought to repeal the harmful Hyde and Helms Amendments that prohibit federal funds from being used for necessary abortion care.
