Congressman Crow Joins House Democrats in Introducing the Women’s Health Protection Act
Crow: “Abortion is health care.”
WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) joined House Democrats in introducing the Women’s Health Protection Act to pass into law the right to an abortion nationwide. This bill follows the Supreme Court’s misguided decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, stripping abortion rights across the country. The Women’s Health Protection Act would create a statutory right for health care providers to provide abortion care, and a right for their patients to receive that care, free from bans and restrictions that single out abortion and impede access. “Abortion is health care. It’s past time for every woman across the country to have constitutionally guaranteed access to reproductive health care,” said Congressman Crow. “This legislation would protect women’s fundamental right to an abortion across the country.” One in four women will have an abortion in her lifetime. Congressman Crow joins a majority of Americans who believe that when someone has made the decision to have an abortion, they should be able to access the care they need free from burdens, barriers, and stigma. Congressman Crow has been a champion for women’s right to an abortion, including introducing the Access to Reproductive Care for Servicemembers Act which ensures servicemembers, regardless of where they’re stationed, have access to abortion care. He has also called to eliminate the Senate filibuster in order to protect women’s access to abortion and fought to repeal the harmful Hyde and Helms Amendments that prohibit federal funds from being used for necessary abortion care. |
