Congressman Crow Applauds Changes to Reduce Airport Noise

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06), member of the Quiet Skies Caucus, released this statement following news that the Centennial Airport will adopt key recommendations of the Centennial Airport Community Noise Roundtable Study Group Committee (CACNR). The recently released interim report includes two direct changes that address aviation noise concerns. 

Building on Congressman Crow’s ongoing efforts to tackle airport noise for flight path communities, Centennial Airport will take immediate action to add noise-sensitive areas to their air traffic control tower’s radar display, and when possible, redirect more air traffic to fly over commercial areas and away from residential communities during late evenings and early mornings.

“I have repeatedly pushed to reduce noise around Centennial Airport and am grateful to see some changes made to flight paths and times to address the issues. Following an in-air collision near Centennial Airport in 2021, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) changed the flight path at the airport, raising significant concerns about the increased noise for families residing in surrounding neighborhoods.  

Congressman Crow has consistently fought for a strong federal response to fully address local concerns of high-decibel airport noise. Recently, Crow advanced several key provisions in the FY24 FAA Reauthorization Act, requiring the agency to take a series of steps to reduce communities’ aviation noise. Crow’s efforts also include urging proper oversight of the FAA to hold the aviation industry accountable for addressing airport noise, pressing for answers on the environmental impacts, and increasing the presence of community representatives to prioritize airport noise as an environmental, health, and safety issue.
