Ark Valley Voice: Colorado Congressional Leaders Issue Statement to End Trump’s War with Iran
As more U.S. troops, ordered up weeks ago, arrive in the Mideast, several members of Colorado’s legislative leadership have called on Congress to act, as the “War of Choice” against Iran, by President Donald Trump continues to foment chaos around the globe.
Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO), members of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees, released the following statement urging both chambers of Congress to support a War Powers Resolution to end President Donald Trump’s reckless, costly war with Iran:
“As we’ve said from the start, Congress must do its constitutional duty to stop President Trump’s dangerous and unauthorized war.
“The American people overwhelmingly do not support this war, but the President has ignored them.
“Trump’s recklessness has produced multiple strategic failures that carry real human costs. Thirteen American servicemembers and thousands of civilians are dead, over 300 service members are injured, tens of billions of taxpayer dollars have been spent with no strategy, energy and gas prices are through the roof, Russia is cashing in from high oil prices, China is gaining ground while we shift focus away from Asia, and American alliances and credibility have been severely damaged around the world.”
Senator John Hickenlooper (D – Colorado) also issued a separate statement after voting in favor of the Iran War Powers Resolution in the Senate:
“This war is a Shakespearean tragedy on a global scale. American lives have been lost. The world economy has been crippled. Worst of all, we’re left with no good options.
“Coloradans are already facing a cost-of-living emergency. We need lower costs for gas, groceries, housing, and health care. Not another endless conflict.
“Congress never authorized this illegal war. Let’s obey the law and end it.”
The Iran War Powers Resolution failed in the Senate — for something like the fourth time. Most Senate Republicans have continued to vote against the resolution. Last month, the three lawmakers all voted in favor of the most recent War Powers Resolution to prevent the use of military force against Iran unless explicitly authorized by Congress.
