WASHINGTON - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass bipartisan legislation introduced by Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO), to increase the visa cap for Afghan interpreters and other partners and expedite the visa process.
The Averting Loss of Life and Injury by Expediting SIVs (ALLIES) Act makes important changes to the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program to improve visa processing and ensure that the lives of those who served side by side with American troops in Afghanistan are protected.
WASHINGTON - Yesterday, the House passed legislation led by Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06) that would expedite the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) process for Afghan interpreters and other partners. The Honoring Our Promises through Expedition [HOPE] for Afghan SIVs Act of 2021 would temporarily waive the requirement for SIV applicants to undergo a medical examination while in Afghanistan.
The legislation passed the House with broad bipartisan support.

The House voted overwhelmingly on Thursday to expand a visa program for Afghans who are facing retribution for helping American troops and diplomats during the 20-year war in Afghanistan, moving to allow more of them to immigrate to the United States quickly as the Biden administration races to evacuate them.
The US House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure announced on March 3, 2021 that it would accept requests for Member Designated Projects as a part of the surface transportation reauthorization legislation.

This year, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will accept member project requests for consideration in this year's surface transportation authorization legislation. This process is separate and distinct from the House Committee on Appropriations' process. Projects funded through the surface transportation authorization will be funded directly from the Highway Trust Fund, and do not require a separate or subsequent appropriation. Projects included in the Committee's surface transportation authorization legislation are provided dedicated contract authority.
