Reps. Crow, Lamborn Introduce the Military FAMILY Dependents Act
Bipartisan legislation enables US servicemembers to be reassigned based on the residence of dependent children
WASHINGTON — Representatives Jason Crow (D-CO-06), Army veteran, and Doug Lamborn (R-CO-05) introduced the Military Family’s Ability to Move in Line with Your Dependents Act (Military FAMILY Dependents Act), bipartisan legislation that provides servicemembers stationed more than 300 miles from their dependent children the ability to request a reassignment to move closer to their dependent children.
This legislation aims to improve servicemembers' quality of life, promote recruitment, increase retention, and enable servicemembers to carry out their missions while being closer to family.
“Our military families sacrifice again and again for our country—being assigned far away from their children should not be one of them,” said Congressman Crow. “I’m glad to spearhead this effort with Rep. Lamborn to give our military families a chance to be closer together. This move is not only in the best interest of our troops, it also improves military readiness and retention while giving our servicemembers something they did not have before—the ability to be close to their family while continuing to serve our country.”
“In order to fully support our service men and women, we must support their families,” said Congressman Lamborn. “This bill will make it easier for military parents to be closer to their children and have more flexibility to provide the parental support and guidance necessary.”
Today’s legislation builds on Crow’s longstanding commitment to improving the wellbeing of US servicemembers, veterans, and their families. These include helping pass into law one of the largest expansions of veterans health benefits in history with the PACT Act, and fighting to secure key wins in last year’s defense spending, including a 4.6% pay raise for troops serving across all military branches.
