Press Release

Below please find a statement from Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO) on the news that President Trump will be reducing troop levels in Afghanistan from 4,500 to 2,500. Earlier this year, Congressman Crow introduced the Afghanistan Partnership and Transparency Act with Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-WY) that ensures any drawdown of troops from Afghanistan is subject to thorough congressional oversight, including as it relates to U.S. national security, protections for vulnerable populations, and a commitment to forging a lasting diplomatic peace for the Afghan people. Congressman Crow is a former Army Ranger who served three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee.

“The war in Afghanistan must end. Americans have carried the burden and suffered the costs of this war for two decades. We must do so in a deliberate way that both protects our troops and keeps faith with the allies that came to our aid after 9/11 and still serve with us to this day. There is a right way to do this, but President Trump has instead chosen to play politics. Our troops, the American people, and our allies deserve better.”
