Crow Statement on National Guard’s June End Date, Day Before Members Become Eligible for Benefits
Below, find a statement from Congressman Jason Crow (CO-6) on the administration’s plans for a “hard stop” to the National Guard’s current deployment on June 24th, the day before many members would become eligible for retirement and education benefits. Over 40,000 members of the National Guard are currently assisting federal and state efforts to build field hospitals, test Americans for COVID-19, and manage emergency operations. Politico’s recent reporting on the plan can be found here.
“Talk is cheap. Let’s not just say that we support our troops and their families, let’s actually do it. Artificially ending National Guard deployments the day before benefits kick in is just plain wrong. I won’t stand by and let this administration abuse the trust of our National Guard members.
“My military career began and ended as a member of the National Guard. We owe it to these citizen soldiers who have answered the call during this time of crisis to provide them the benefits they have earned. What’s more, our nation still needs these men and women at field hospitals, testing facilities, and operations centers to help us through this crisis.
“It’s time that we provide health care, leave benefits, and certainty to the National Guardsmen and women currently serving.”
