May 29, 2024

Crow-secured funding will go to support Town of Bow Mar roadway improvements and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office

BOW MAR & CENTENNIAL On Tuesday, Congressman Jason Crow (CO-06) delivered over $600,000 in community project funding, including $455,400 for the Town of Bow Mar to repair and replace right of way signage used to access open space areas, $108,000 for Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office to acquire new dog kennels for police K9s, and $59,000 for the POST Board Certified Law Enforcement Academy to implement a program to train recruits to agency standards. The funding is part of the 15 community projects Crow requested and secured through the FY24 appropriations process.

“This funding directly uplifts our community. I’m grateful to have fought for and secured this critical funding to improve safety and make Colorado more accessible,” said Congressman Crow. “Thank you to the Town of Bow Mar and the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office for your leadership to support Coloradans.”

Town of Bow Mar Local Road Improvements for Open Space Access

The Town of Bow Mar will use the Crow-secured $455,500 for local road improvements to repair and replace right of way signage used to access open space areas that have deteriorated due to increased road traffic.

“Bow Mar is a small yet vibrant community, and maintaining and upgrading infrastructure is a constant challenge. Today, we stand on the brink of a substantial investment in our infrastructure,” said Bow Mar Mayor Bryan Sperry. “This funding will be instrumental in paving the roads leading to our cherished open space named after former Mayor Mary Carter. On behalf of the entire Bow Mar community, I extend our deepest gratitude to Congressman Crow for recognizing our needs and stepping up to assist us.”

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Units & POST Board Certified Law Enforcement Academy Training Program

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office will use the Crow-secured $108,000 to acquire new indoor and outdoor climate controlled dog kennels for police K9s. This allows the K9 unit to house the dogs at the sheriff's office to more easily conduct training.

Congressman Crow was joined by Democratic Whip Representative Katherine Clark (MA-05), Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown, Head of the K9 Unit Sgt. Brian Starbuck, and local law enforcement.

“From day one, Congressman Jason Crow has been a champion for our men and women in uniform, and I was honored to join him in presenting over $150,000 to Colorado’s law enforcement officers,” said Whip Clark. “This is our People Over Politics agenda in action, and I’m grateful to Congressman Crow for his continued leadership in House Democrats’ fight to build safer communities.”

“I want to thank Congress and Representative Jason Crow for their commitment to first responders and our K-9 program at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office,” said Arapahoe County Sheriff Brown. “The funding provided to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office supports key parts of our agency so we can provide a safe and healthy community for everyone who lives in Arapahoe County.”

When Congressman Crow visited ACSO last year, he asked ‘What do you need to be successful?’ I decided to take a leap and told him that I could really use approximately $100K for a kennel facility – he immediately set forward, with tremendous assistance from his staff, a chain of events that led us to today,” said Head of K9 Unit Sgt. Starbuck. “An asset to all 11 of our K9 teams, these kennels are the next step in our mission of building and maintaining a top level K9 program at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.”

The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office will also use the Crow-secured $59,000 to assist the County with the implementation of the State of Colorado POST Board Law Enforcement Academy to fully train recruits to agency standards – eliminating the need to provide additional retraining after returning from outside academies.

The funding will be used for a RECON simulator system, which is used to train recruits on how to respond in a variety of situations, including how to use non-lethal responses and tools in order to limit the use of deadly force in the field.

In 2022, Congressman Crow also secured federal funding for 15 projects. In 2023, Crow delivered those funds to the district, including over $1.2M to strengthen the youth-focused mental health workforce and expand access to behavioral health for young Coloradans in crisis, more than $11.6M to deliver safe and accessible drinking water, uplift our vulnerable and unhoused neighbors, and support new residents, and funding to support hunger relief efforts and provide stable housing and career support for unhoused Coloradans.
