Congressman Crow Announces Aurora Resident Rosario Morales as His Guest for Tuesday’s State of the Union

WASHINGTON – Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06) today announced that Rosario Morales, a constituent concerned with Republican budget cuts to Medicaid, will be his guest Tuesday for President Donald Trump’s Joint Address to Congress. Morales, a program enrollment manager at STRIDE Community Health Center in Aurora, works closely with Colorado patients who would be severely impacted by cuts to Medicaid.
“We should not be cutting Medicaid and taking away health care from millions of people to pay for another massive tax cut to billionaires and big corporations,” said Congressman Crow. “Local community health centers like STRIDE work every day to provide quality, affordable health care to Colorado families. I am proud that Rosario Morales will be my guest at the President’s address to highlight why Congress should reject any budget that cuts Medicaid and takes away health care for children, pregnant women, and the disabled.”
The Republican House budget resolution passed by the U.S. House of Representatives last week instructs the House Energy and Commerce Committee to cut at least $880 billion in costs over the next decade. To make those types of steep cuts, Republicans are weighing billions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid, which would threaten health care coverage for 80 million Americans. Republicans are considering these cuts to Medicaid to offer “lucrative tax cuts to corporations and wealthier Americans,” according to the Associated Press.
One in four Coloradans—1.69 million people—get their health care through Medicaid, including children, pregnant women, elderly, and the disabled. In Colorado’s Sixth Congressional District, 115,000 residents get their health care through Medicaid, according to the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.
Congressman Crow recently voted against the Republican budget proposal and has spoken out in opposition to any plans to cut Medicaid. He recently visited STRIDE Community Health Center to talk with doctors and patients about how cuts to Medicaid will hurt Colorado families.
